About the Company
Our client is a major insurer operating a commercial insurance business, serving customers from SME through to upper mid-market. They've built a risk management platform with a vendor, and continue to invest in strengthening this capability as the business grows.
About the Role
This Senior Business Analyst role leads discovery on a major API integration rebuild with an external vendor, redefining requirements as the vendor overhauls their API structure. Reporting to the Product Owner and working closely with business SMEs, you'll translate vendor and business input into clear requirements, operating independently ahead of the delivery team being resourced.
This is a chance to own a complex, high-visibility piece of work end to end, working directly with a vendor rather than through layers of governance. It's an initial 7 month engagement, with scope to extend depending on discovery findings.
Duties / Key Responsibilities
- Lead discovery to map the current state of the existing integration
- Work directly with the vendor to define and validate new API requirements
- Translate business and vendor input into clear business and technical requirements for architects and the delivery team
- Assess and advise on sequencing risk between this rebuild and a parallel data warehouse upgrade
- Coordinate testing and proactively flag risks or blockers, particularly around vendor turnaround times
Skills and Experience - Deep insurance domain experience, ideally in commercial insurance
- Strong API delivery experience, with a data-leaning rather than UI-leaning skillset
- Proven vendor management experience, including holding external vendors accountable
- Comfortable operating independently and driving ambiguity toward clarity without a delivery squad in place
- Business SME or BA lead background, confident forming and articulating a view in workshops
- Experience writing epics and user stories; agile exposure a plus, methodology is flexible here
