Workday Functional Consultant
A major financial services organisation running a large-scale Workday programme across its people function. The business is investing heavily in getting its HCM foundations right, with senior sponsorship and a clear transformation mandate. This is real programme work with proper scope, not a lift-and-shift.
About the role
Sit at the centre of a Workday HCM programme as the functional lead across Absence, Payroll, Time Tracking and Expenses. You will translate business need into working Workday solutions, own the functional design, and partner across people and technology teams to shape future-state processes and make them stick. The role touches everything from requirements through to design decisions that land in the system.
Duties / Key responsibilities
- Lead functional analysis and design across Workday HCM (Absence, Payroll, Time Tracking, Expenses)
- Elicit, document and validate current and future-state processes
- Translate business requirements into Workday functional specifications and configuration intent
- Run impact and gap analysis to support design and prioritisation decisions
- Build process models and maintain requirements traceability
- Apply BPMN and enterprise process standards for consistent modelling
- Identify risks and issues and support mitigation and governance
- Partner with people and technology teams to design fit-for-purpose solutions
Who you are
You know Workday from the inside. You have configured it, designed against it, or led functional workstreams on it, and you can tell the difference between what the business asks for and what the system should actually do.
You are comfortable in the grey. Requirements are half-formed, opinions compete, and you are the one who turns that into a clear functional design people can build to.
You hold your own with senior people. You can sit across from a payroll lead or a programme director and steer the conversation without losing the room.
You think in process, not just tickets. You see the end-to-end and you care whether the design actually improves how work gets done.
Benefits - Functional ownership across four Workday HCM modules on a major programme
- Senior stakeholder exposure across people and technology
- Work that shapes design decisions, not just documentation
- Scale and complexity that stretches strong consultants
- A programme with real backing and a clear mandate
Skills and experience - Proven Workday functional consulting experience across HCM (required)
- Hands-on experience across Absence, Payroll, Time Tracking and Expenses
- Delivery on large-scale Workday or SaaS HCM transformation programmes
- Strong process analysis in complex environments
- Working knowledge of BPMN 2.0 and frameworks such as APQC
- Experience across Agile and Waterfall delivery
- Strong stakeholder engagement, including with senior leaders
- Knowledge of BABOK, UML or business capability mapping (desirable)
- Experience with ARIS, Jira, Signavio or Confluence (desirable)
- Financial services or regulated environment background (desirable)
