Enterprise Data Architect - $230k-$250k + Super + Bonus
About the company
Our client is a large, highly respected Australia and New Zealand retail and wholesale organisation, operating at national scale across multiple consumer and trade sectors. The business supports thousands of independent operators and partners and is undertaking a significant enterprise-wide data and digital transformation.
This is a genuinely large-scale environment, with complex operational, commercial and customer data spanning multiple business units.
There is significant investment in data & AI transformation and this role would be the first of it's kind, working closely with the new Chief Data Officer as well as the Head of Enterprise Architecture.
This role will be primarily office based with 1-2 days wfh per week.
About the role
Reporting into senior technology leadership, the Enterprise Data Architect will play a critical role in defining and delivering the organisation’s enterprise data architecture and modern data platform.
You will lead the transition to cloud-based data services, enable advanced analytics and AI use cases, and establish strong data governance and stewardship across the enterprise.
This role partners closely with engineering, analytics, architecture and senior business stakeholders to ensure data platforms directly support business strategy and decision-making.

Duties / Key responsibilities - Define and lead the enterprise data architecture across multiple business domains.
- Design and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models aligned to business processes and analytics needs.
- Lead the migration, integration and simplification of critical data assets onto Microsoft Fabric and Azure platforms.
- Establish and embed data governance, metadata management and stewardship practices (including Microsoft Purview).
- Define best practice approaches for ETL/ELT, APIs and real-time data pipelines.
- Partner with engineering, analytics and business teams to deliver data solutions aligned to strategic priorities.
- Ensure data security, privacy and regulatory compliance across platforms and data assets.
- Monitor data quality, performance and consistency across the enterprise data estate.
- Contribute to the architecture community of practice, including standards, patterns and artefacts.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to data and architecture team members.
Skills and experience - 5+ years’ experience in data architecture with enterprise architecture understanding
- Experience across Azure data services and Microsoft Fabric.
- Solid experience designing modern cloud-based data platforms and large-scale data migrations.
- Strong knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing and medallion-style architectures.
- Experience implementing enterprise data governance frameworks and stewardship models.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior technical and business leaders.
- Experience in retail, wholesale or supply chain environments is highly regarded.
