Senior Infrastructure Engineer

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day health, performance, and uplift of a predominantly Windows, VMware and Azure environment. You'll work closely with the Infrastructure Manager on strategic initiatives, major incidents, and continuous improvement as the Senior Engineer/2IC. This role does not involve any line management, but does involve technical leadership. 
Key Responsibilities

• Own and optimize the organisation's Windows-based server and infrastructure (VMWare) environment, ensuring high availability, performance, and security
• Act as the technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues and major incidents
• Support and enhance hybrid infrastructure, spanning on-prem systems and Microsoft Azure
• Design, implement, and maintain Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and IIS
• Drive automation and operational efficiency using PowerShell and Azure tooling
• Lead infrastructure-focused incident response, root cause analysis, and preventative remediation
• Partner closely with security, networking, and application teams to ensure cohesive infrastructure outcomes
• Oversee patching, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and compliance requirements
• Contribute to capacity planning, performance optimisation, and infrastructure uplift projects
• Produce and maintain clear technical documentation and operational runbooks

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years' experience in infrastructure or systems engineering roles
• Strong background managing enterprise-grade on-prem and cloud environments
• Deep expertise in Windows Server (2016-2022), Active Directory, and virtualisation (VMWare & Hyper-V)
• Solid hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (IaaS, networking, identity, hybrid integrations)
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPNs)
• Technical Leadership of teams/working to support more junior team members
• Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation capability
• Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and endpoint/security tooling
• Proven ability to operate as a senior, autonomous engineer and trusted technical advisor
• Comfortable acting as a 2IC, stepping in when required and supporting infrastructure decision-making
