Cyber Security Engineer - Permanent - 1 day a week in office  - Sydney

We're working with a growing organisation (~500 staff) looking to add a Cyber Security Engineer to their internal security team. This role is ideal for someone who has grown into security from an infrastructure or broader IT background and enjoys being proactive, consultative, and hands-on where it matters.
 
What You'll Be Doing

• Leading and contributing to AWS security initiatives, reviews, and ongoing programs of work
• Acting as an internal security consultant - identifying issues, driving fixes, and improving security outcomes
• Embedding security into the software development lifecycle (DevSecOps) without slowing teams down
• Working closely with developers to influence secure design and delivery
• Owning incident response activities, investigations, and follow-up improvements
• Managing and improving vulnerability management practices
• Partnering daily with a third-party SOC
• Delivering a mix of project-based work (approx. 75%) and BAU security operations (25%)
• Helping shape a security-first culture focused on pragmatic, real-world outcomes

What We're Looking For

• 5 years' experience in cyber security
• Strong AWS security experience (must-have)
• Experience influencing and working with software engineers and development teams
• Exposure to DevSecOps and secure development practices
• Broad, generalist security skill set with a strong ownership mindset
• Prior experience in IT or infrastructure before moving into security
• Confident communicator who can consult, influence, and drive outcomes
• Comfortable operating in small teams and taking initiative without constant direction

Nice to Have

• Azure security experience
• Experience with Microsoft security tools such as Purview (data governance) and Defender
• Cloud security tooling exposure (e.g. Prisma Cloud)
• Evidence of stepping up responsibilities or growing scope over time
