Job Summary:
 
Ground Works Land Design is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Operations to oversee the Projects and Maintenance divisions of our award-winning landscape design and construction company. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, profitability, and the highest level of craftsmanship across both construction projects (Outdoor living spaces, paver patios, stamp concrete, driveways, walkways, retaining walls, masonry, pergolas, pools etc.) and year-round property maintenance services (weekly lawn and bed care, seasonal cleanups, pruning, fertilization, irrigation, and more).
 
The Director of Operations will collaborate with ownership to set strategy, build strong teams, enforce quality and safety standards, and drive profitability across all service lines.
 
Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 annually (contingent on experience)

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership over both the Projects (design-build construction) and Maintenance (property care) divisions.
• Build, manage, and optimize crew schedules, project manager assignments, and seasonal staffing plans.
• Oversee financial performance by reviewing budgets, monitoring profit margins, and enforcing gross profit standards across all projects and maintenance contracts.
• Approve estimates and bids for hardscape, masonry, landscape, and maintenance projects to ensure accuracy, profitability, and alignment with company standards.
• Ensure operational efficiency across all crews by implementing best practices, clear SOPs, and strong accountability systems.
• Monitor and manage employee performance through onboarding, training, performance reviews, and career development plans.
• Partner with ownership and HR on recruitment, hiring, retention, and succession planning.
• Enforce and champion all safety programs and compliance protocols.
• Collaborate with project managers, foremen, and maintenance supervisors to deliver projects and property care that exceed client expectations.
• Maintain high-level client relations, resolving escalated issues promptly and ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Drive cross-division collaboration to integrate construction and maintenance services for long-term client partnerships.
• Report weekly on division metrics including revenue growth, job costing, efficiency, customer satisfaction, employee retention, and safety compliance.
• Perform all other duties as assigned to ensure the overall success of the organization.
• a.k.a. Operations Director, Director of Construction & Maintenance, Landscaping Operations Director.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in construction, landscaping, or related operational management.
• Strong background in both landscape construction/design-build and property maintenance services.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, monitor job costing, and drive profitability.
• Skilled in managing multiple crews, projects, and seasonal workflows simultaneously.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
• Experience with irrigation systems, fertilization programs, and lawn/bed maintenance strongly preferred.
• Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
• Strong business acumen with a high attention to detail and organizational excellence.
• REQUIRED Valid Driver's License with minimal incidents or points in the last 3 years.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to walk and move around active job sites as needed.
• Able to lift more than 50 lbs occasionally.
• Able to crouch, bend, climb stairs/ladders, and stand for extended periods
