Project Manager – Insurance Transformation Melbourne | 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract | Immediate Start
About the Opportunity Advance Thinking is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Insurance Transformation to join one of our key clients within a major Australian insurance environment.
This is a highly visible role spanning regulatory delivery, commercial outcomes, customer impacts and technology-enabled transformation, with direct exposure to General Managers and senior executives.
You'll take ownership of two important initiatives: delivery of the FY27 Rate Review across Private Health Insurance (PHI) and Overseas Visitors Cover (OVC), and supporting the development of a broader Insurance Transformation Strategy.
This opportunity would suit an established Senior Project Manager or a high-performing mid-level PM ready to take ownership of larger, enterprise-wide initiatives.
The Role You'll be the central point connecting business, regulatory, product, commercial, technology and operational teams, ensuring multiple workstreams remain aligned and critical milestones are achieved.
FY27 Rate Review You'll lead the end-to-end coordination of the annual Rate Review program, responsible for implementing premium changes across Private Health Insurance and Overseas Visitors Cover, with a critical 1 April implementation date.
This includes:
- Coordinate rate strategy, pricing and commercial activities.
- Manage regulatory submissions, approvals and clarification activities.
- Coordinate product, billing and technology changes.
- Manage customer and product impact activities.
- Coordinate customer communications and operational readiness.
- Maintain oversight of dependencies and critical-path activities.
- Drive implementation and go-live readiness across all workstreams.
Established technology teams will deliver the underlying system changes; your role is to
connect the moving parts, drive accountability and keep the overall program on track.
Insurance Transformation Strategy You'll also work with senior leaders to support development of the business case for a broader Insurance Transformation Strategy.
This will include helping define the opportunity, understand business requirements and priorities, shape the case for change and establish a clear pathway forward.
What You'll Be Doing
- Establish and maintain project scope, plans, milestones and governance.
- Lead delivery across multiple business and technology workstreams.
- Coordinate regulatory, commercial, product, technology, operational and customer activities.
- Manage risks, issues, dependencies and critical-path milestones.
- Drive accountability and maintain momentum across delivery teams.
- Facilitate decision-making and escalate issues where required.
- Engage confidently with General Managers, executives and senior sponsors.
- Provide clear and meaningful project reporting.
- Coordinate operational readiness, implementation and go-live activities.
- Ensure technology delivery remains aligned with business and customer outcomes.
- Contribute to the Insurance Transformation Strategy business case.
What We're Looking For We're looking for a capable
mid-to-senior Project Manager who can take ownership, bring structure to complexity and confidently operate across a senior stakeholder environment.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Strong end-to-end Project Management experience.
- Experience delivering complex business transformation, regulatory or commercial initiatives.
- Previous insurance industry experience highly regarded.
- Private Health Insurance experience would be particularly advantageous.
- Strong planning, governance, risk, issue and dependency management capability.
- Experience coordinating multiple teams and workstreams within complex organisations.
- Confidence engaging and influencing senior stakeholders and executives.
- Exposure to technology-enabled transformation or technology delivery.
- Strong commercial awareness and focus on business outcomes.
- Excellent written, verbal and executive communication skills.
You don't need to be deeply technical, but you should be comfortable working with technology teams and connecting technical delivery to broader business, regulatory and customer outcomes.
What Will Set You Apart We're particularly interested in Project Managers who demonstrate
ownership, initiative and delivery leadership.
You'll be someone who can quickly understand a complex environment, identify problems early, connect teams and stakeholders, and keep delivery moving without needing constant direction.
Whether you're already operating as a Senior Project Manager or ready to step into a broader role, you'll need the confidence to remain hands-on while maintaining sight of the bigger picture.
The Opportunity
- 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract: Take ownership of two significant insurance initiatives.
- Executive Exposure: Work directly with General Managers, senior sponsors and executives.
- High-Impact Delivery: Lead a business-critical regulatory Rate Review with a fixed implementation deadline.
- Transformation Exposure: Contribute to shaping the organisation's broader Insurance Transformation Strategy.
- Broad Enterprise Scope: Work across commercial, regulatory, product, customer, operational and technology teams.
If you're an experienced Project Manager who enjoys taking ownership, navigating complexity and driving outcomes across enterprise environments,
we'd love to hear from you.
