Te āheinga: The opportunity
We are seeking a strategic Chief Financial Officer to lead the delivery of high-quality financial services and advice that supports the Council’s long-term sustainability and objectives. This could also be a great opportunity for someone who is looking to develop into a CFO role; but first and foremost, you will bring a transformative mindset, building on the councils existing success to modernise services.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring robust financial operations, providing sound strategic guidance, and driving financial performance across the organisation, while also playing a key role with how the organisation positions itself in Local Government reform. You will play a critical role in enabling informed decision-making, maintaining financial integrity, and contributing to the achievement of Council goals that support a thriving community and robust local economy.
Ngā kawenga me ngā mahi: Responsibilities and duties
The Chief Financial Officer will:
- Lead the provision of efficient and effective financial and management accounting services, while overseeing budget preparation, financial reporting, tax, cash management and insurance functions.
- Develop, implement and maintain financial strategies, frameworks, policies and procedures aligned with legislative and best-practice requirements, while also enabling a functional shift for the organisation towards true finance business partnering.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide leadership, mentoring and technical financial guidance across the organisation.
He kōrero mōu: About you To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Relevant qualifications and experience in accounting, commerce, finance or a related discipline.
- Membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) or equivalent professional body.
- Significant general management experience within financial or corporate services.
- Proven ability to negotiate financial service outcomes and manage key service providers.
- Political awareness and the ability to work collaboratively across a complex organisational environment.

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Tokoroa, however there is some flexibility for remote working. A fixed term contract may also be considered.
