About our Client:
At Star Pharmacy Group, their purpose is simple. Helping our communities live "Happier and Healthier Every Day". Founded in South Australia in 2003, Star Pharmacy Group has grown into one of Australia's leading community pharmacy networks with stores across South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.
Their network includes Star Discount Chemist, one of Australia's fastest-growing pharmacy brands, known for delivering expert health advice, outstanding value and convenient healthcare services to local communities.
With 900+ team members across their stores and national support office, their people are the driving force behind their culture and the success of the communities they serve.
About the Opportunity: Star Pharmacy Group is looking for a commercially sharp Senior Retail Buyer to join the buying team at their National Support Office in Kent Town. Reporting to the National Retail Buyer, you'll take full ownership of the sales, margin, range and stock performance of your allocated departments, and see the results of your decisions on shelf across their national store network.
This is a role with real authority. You'll agree trading terms, place orders, and approve new lines and range deletions for your departments. You'll lead supplier negotiations, run the monthly catalogue and seasonal buying cycles, and mentor a Trainee Retail Buyer who will learn the craft from you.
If you love the numbers, thrive on a good negotiation and get a buzz from seeing a campaign land in store, this one is for you!
Key Responsibilities: As Senior Retail Buyer, you'll work alongside the National Retail Buyer and be responsible for:
- Owning the sales, margin, range and stock performance of your allocated departments, with clear sales and GP targets to beat.
- Building and delivering annual department and location plans, backed by data-led range reviews, smart use of planogram space and a close eye on competitor pricing, promotions and new-to-market products.
- Leading supplier negotiations on trading terms, cost prices, quantities and delivery, and growing supplier income through rebates and promotional funding.
- Building strong relationships with suppliers and wholesalers, including regular business reviews and joint business plans with key suppliers.
- Running the monthly catalogue and seasonal buying cycles, from creating promotional themes that appeal to Star's customers through to forecasting, allocating and ordering stock.
- Signing off catalogue proofs with a sharp eye for pricing, product details and TGA advertising requirements.
- Managing products from launch to exit, keeping stock turn healthy and dead stock to a minimum.
- Partnering with Marketing, Store Operations and supply chain partners, and keeping stores ready to launch through updates and supplier-led training.
- Acting quickly on product recalls and urgent legal requirements, following TGA and internal recall processes.
- Mentoring and developing the Trainee Retail Buyer, including reviewing their catalogue, proofing and allocation work.
To be successful in this role you will have: - 5+ years' experience in retail buying or category management, ideally in pharmacy, health or FMCG.
- A proven record of growing sales and margin, with accountability for a category P&L.
- Strong negotiation skills and a track record of securing competitive trading terms without compromising on quality.
- Sharp analytical skills and a genuine eye for detail - you can turn large amounts of data into clear buying decisions.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with reporting/BI tools.
- Knowledge of pharmacy industry requirements, including TGA regulations and QCPP, would be highly regarded.
- Experience mentoring or leading team members would be a bonus.
- A tertiary qualification in business, commerce or a related field would be advantageous, but is not essential.
- Excellent communication skills, high energy and the drive to deliver on tight catalogue deadlines.
Why join the Star Pharmacy Group? - Join one of Australia's leading community pharmacy groups, with a purpose you can get behind: helping communities live "Happier and Healthier Every Day".
- Real ownership and decision-making authority over your departments.
- A people-first team at the National Support Office.
- A great opportunity to grow your career in buying and category management with an established, growing national group.
- Be part of and work closely with the Sales and Marketing team.
- Kent Town location with onsite car parking.
If you're ready to own your departments, sharpen your negotiating edge and see your work on shelf across a national network, we'd love to hear from you!
