General Manager – Liner, East Africa
Location: Dubai
  
We are partnering with a privately-owned shipping company operating a niche liner service primarily focused on oil and gas cargo in Africa. With several vessels already deployed and contracts supporting major energy projects, the company is now poised to expand regionally while maintaining its specialized, agile approach.
  
The General Manager will be based in Dubai and report directly to the Owner. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for shaping the company’s liner strategy, managing trade lanes and port relationships, and overseeing the commercial performance of the business.
  
Frequent travelling to Africa should be expected.
  
Key Responsibilities

• Lead the overall strategy in partnership with group management and the Owner, ensuring alignment with the company’s long-term vision.
• Develop and optimize trade routes, schedules, and service offerings to support growth into regional markets.
• Manage relationships with ports, terminals, and key customers, including major oil & gas players.
• Oversee tariff setting, pricing adjustments, and commercial negotiations to ensure profitability.
• Coordinate closely with local sales teams and ensure alignment between commercial strategy and operational execution.
• Provide high-level input on fleet deployment and future vessel acquisitions.
• Act as the Owner’s representative in Dubai, providing insight, analysis, and recommendations for business growth.

  Profile

• Strong background in liner shipping, ideally from a small to mid-sized company.
• Experience in Africa is highly preferred, with a solid understanding of the opportunities and challenges of operating in the region.
• Demonstrated ability to run and grow a business line, combining commercial acumen with operational oversight.
• Ambitious and entrepreneurial mindset, with the drive to build a business over the long term.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage at senior levels.
