Business Architect Consultant Job Description
Job Title: Business Architect
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Employment Type: Full-time
The Role
We are looking for a Business Architect with strong consulting experience, who can operate at both strategic and executional levels. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex business problems, designing future-state operating models, and aligning strategy with practical delivery.
You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders to uncover opportunities, define clear roadmaps, and guide transformation efforts. In addition to your core Business Architecture skills, you should be comfortable flexing across other architectural domains such as Enterprise, Data, or Solution Architecture, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with business and technology leaders to shape business strategy and align it with future-state capabilities.
- Develop and maintain business architecture artefacts including capability maps, value streams, operating models, and business roadmaps.
- Lead and facilitate workshops to uncover business drivers, pain points, and transformation opportunities.
- Translate strategy into actionable initiatives and collaborate with delivery teams to ensure alignment and traceability.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, offering guidance and thought leadership across business and technology landscapes.
- Support or step into other architectural roles (e.g., Solution, Data, Enterprise Architecture) depending on the needs of the engagement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensuring business architecture considerations are factored into overall design.
About You
You are a confident consultant who thrives in client-facing environments and can comfortably navigate ambiguity. You bring structure to complexity, and you’re just as comfortable with post-it notes and whiteboards as you are with formal models and tools.
What You Bring
- Proven experience as a Business Architect, ideally in a consulting or professional services context.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of an organisation.
- Deep understanding of business capability modelling, value stream mapping, operating model design, and transformation planning.
- Ability to think strategically while staying pragmatic and outcome-focused.
- Comfort stepping into adjacent architecture roles (e.g., solution or enterprise architecture) when needed.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Familiarity with industry frameworks such as TOGAF, or similar certifications.
- Exposure to a range of sectors is beneficial (e.g., government, utilities, financial services, etc.).
What You Can Expect in Return
- Autonomy & Flexibility – We trust you to manage your work-life balance effectively.
- Challenging & Meaningful Work – Work with leading businesses on high-impact projects.
- Professional Growth – Ongoing opportunities for learning and career progression.
- A Supportive & Innovative Team – Collaborate with some of the best in the industry.
