Why this role exists
You’ll be partnering directly with a highly strategic Chief Risk Officer (20+ years experience) who operates at altitude — focused on vision, commercial outcomes, and where the business is going next.
We are working with a high-growth fintech as our client located in the Sydney CBD to identify a trusted operator and strategic thought partner. Someone who can:
- Translate strategy into execution
- Bring structure, clarity, and momentum to complex initiatives
- Take ownership of the day-to-day running of the Risk function
The opportunity You will sit at the centre of the Risk function — owning execution, driving alignment, and ensuring strategic initiatives are delivered. This is a
high-impact, high-trust role with exposure across:
- Executive leadership
- Cross-functional teams
- External stakeholders (e.g. regulators, credit bureaus)
You’ll take complex ideas and turn them into
clear plans, structured programs, and real outcomes. Does this sound like YOU?
Strategy -> Execution - Translate the CRO’s vision into actionable initiatives and delivery plans
- Drive key strategic programs (e.g. automation, process redesign, underwriting improvements)
- Ensure alignment between risk strategy and broader commercial priorities
Own the engine room - Run the day-to-day operations of the Risk function
- Bring structure, prioritisation, and clarity across multiple initiatives
- Diagnose friction points and drive solutions to accelerate delivery
Program & transformation leadership
Lead & collaborate in cross-divisional initiatives and turn ambiguity into clear execution roadmaps including:
- Automation of decisioning
- Process redesign across application → approval journeys
- Organisational transformation as the business scales
Executive partnership - Act as a proxy for the CRO in forums and decision-making
- Prepare high-quality materials (slides, insights, reporting) for exec and board audiences
- Engage in rigorous, constructive debate with senior stakeholders
Governance & coordination - Oversee reporting, dashboards, and governance cadence
- Coordinate with regulators, though limited day-to-day involvement
- Manage key external relationships (credit bureaus, partners)
What we’re looking for We’re not looking for a traditional risk specialist. We’re looking for someone who can
think, structure, challenge, and execute.
Ideal background - Management consulting or strategy & operations roles
- Experience working closely with senior executives
- Exposure to transformation, operations, or program delivery
- Financial services experience is helpful — but not essential
Capabilities that matter - Exceptional problem-solving and clarity of thought
- Ability to turn complex ideas into structured plans
- Strong communication — especially via slides and storytelling
- High attention to detail and operational discipline
- Confidence to challenge, debate, and influence at senior levels
- Hands-on day to day delivery!
