ROLE – Mechanical Design Engineer (R&D/Prototyping)
  
SALARY - $100,000 - $110,000 per annum, dependent on experience
  
TYPE – Permanent
  
LOCATION – Sydney, NSW
  
My client designs and manufactures a range of bespoke equipment in a high-tech sector. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with excellent hands-on skills in R&D, testing and prototyping to join their team in the Sydney area on a permanent basis.
  
The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

• At least 2 years of experience in a similar Mechanical Design Engineering position
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Highly skilled with 3D CAD, ideally Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360 etc.
• Strong practical skills with R&D, prototyping, testing, FEA, hand calculations, verification and validation
• Proven ability to take a product all the way from concept through to manufacture
• Previous experience working with a variety of materials including sheet metal, machined parts and injection molded plastics
• Good theoretical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
• Able to manage projects and work to deadlines and budgets
• Able to maintain technical documentation and BOM entry
• Able to work well individually as well as part of a team

  
The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

• Using CAD for concept design and producing technical drawings
• Managing the full product lifecycle from concept to production
• Collaborating with different departments to ensure the smooth delivery of projects
• Liasing with manufacturing providers
• Being involved in final assembly
• Creating required documentation for design and project reports
• Updating 3D models and drawings
• Inputting parts into the MRP system and creating BOMs
• Checking drawings for sign off
• Working in a small, multi-disciplinary team on varied projects
