Principal Machine Learning Engineer – Sydney, Hybrid – Agentic AI, LLM Systems

I'm searching for a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to lead a newly formed team building cutting-edge products powered by large language models (LLMs) and agentic AI systems. This role sits at the forefront of a high-growth technology initiative, shaping intelligent systems designed to integrate directly into customer workflows.

This role will suit a technical leader with a strong bias toward delivery and real-world impact—someone who’s built ML products, fixed production bugs, collaborated with design teams, and knows what it means to ship customer-facing software at scale.

Principal Machine Learning Engineer Responsibilities 

• Lead the design and development of a new LLM-based product focused on insurance customer workflows.
• Architect, code, and deploy production-grade ML systems using modern tools and frameworks.
• Contribute to product strategy, with visibility across senior leadership with future scalability in mind.
• Mentor team members and grow into a leadership role as the team scales.

Principal Machine Learning Engineer Requirements

• Proven Machine Learning Engineering experience, delivering real-world systems and products at scale, powered by LLMs.
• A background in engineering and scaling customer-facing products
• Solid understanding of AWS Infrastructure for collaboration purposes
• A genuine excitement about Agentic AI, LLMs and technology.
• Customer-obsessed: seeing AI as a means to solve real user problems.
• Bachelors or higher in a relevant field
