This is a unique opportunity for a professional with a background in corporate legal or compliance—perhaps as a paralegal or legal coordinator—to contribute significantly to a rapidly growing international organization. While a formal legal qualification isn't required, your expertise in managing legal processes, liaising with external legal counsel, and ensuring robust regulatory compliance will be essential.
You'll be an integral part of a collaborative team, working across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America, supporting operations in key markets including Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, the United States, Europe, the Philippines, and Australia.
Your Key Contributions Will Include:
- Cultivating Strategic Legal Alliances: Actively develop and nurture relationships with external legal counsel, ensuring the procurement of expert advice and robust compliance strategies. You will be the key liaison, ensuring legal services are aligned with business objectives.
- Driving Contractual Integrity: Lead the creation, review, and execution of complex commercial agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other legal instruments, guaranteeing that all contractual obligations are met and that the company's interests are protected.
- Championing Regulatory Adherence: Proactively interpret and implement evolving regulatory requirements across Australia and relevant international jurisdictions. You will be the guardian of compliance, minimizing risk and ensuring the company operates within legal boundaries.
- Optimizing Legal Operations: Establish and maintain a comprehensive legal documentation system, streamline contract management processes, and contribute to the development of corporate governance frameworks. You will be a key player in ensuring efficient legal workflows.
- Anticipating and Mitigating Legal Exposure: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential legal vulnerabilities and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement preventative measures. You will play a vital role in safeguarding the organization from legal challenges.
- Facilitating Cross-Jurisdictional Legal Synergy: Act as a central point of contact for legal and compliance teams across diverse geographical regions, fostering the exchange of best practices and ensuring consistent legal standards.
- Managing Intellectual Property: Oversee the management of IP, including trademarks and patents, to ensure the companies assets are protected.
- Internal Training and Policy Development: Assist with the development and delivery of internal training programs on compliance and legal matters, and contribute to the creation and maintenance of company policies and procedures.
- Supporting Internal Audits: Work with internal audit teams to ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations.
Your Qualifications and Strengths:
- Demonstrated Legal Acumen: Possess a solid track record within a corporate legal department, paralegal role, or compliance setting, with a proven ability to navigate complex legal landscapes.
- Comprehensive Legal Foundation: Exhibit a deep understanding of contract lifecycle management, corporate governance principles, and the Australian regulatory environment, with the capacity to apply this knowledge effectively.
- Global Regulatory Insight: Display familiarity with international regulations, such as FCC (US) and GDPR (EU), demonstrating an awareness of global compliance standards.
- Exceptional Communication Proficiency: Possess outstanding English communication skills, both written and verbal, with Japanese language proficiency being a valuable asset.
- Industry-Specific Expertise: Bring experience within the telecommunications sector, demonstrating an understanding of the unique legal and compliance challenges within this industry (highly regarded).
- Independent Legal Leadership: Showcase exceptional organizational and communication capabilities, with a proven ability to independently manage diverse legal and compliance matters, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Strategic Legal Vendor Management: Demonstrate experience in effectively working with and managing external legal service providers, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal support.
- Agile and Resilient Mindset: Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment, demonstrating adaptability, resilience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
- Policy Development and Implementation: Ability to aid in the creation, implementation and maintenance of internal company policies and procedures.
- Legal Research and Analysis: Ability to perform in depth legal research and analysis, and to provide clear and concise legal advice.
- Litigation Support: Ability to assist with litigation matters, including document management, and communication with external legal counsel.
- Data Privacy Management: Ability to manage data privacy compliance, and to ensure company adherence to all relevant data privacy laws.
