The Organisation:
A leading Queensland government department is currently recruiting for an experienced Financial Accountant.  You will be working for a large, complex organisation providing indispensable support to the lives of Queenslanders. It is an organisation you will be proud to work for, and you will value the impact they make in the community.  You will be working closely with the Finance Director, who understands the requirements and expectations of this role very well and will be able to provide exceptional support while you get your head around things. You will not be working excessive hours. This role is initially a temporary position for a minimum of 9 months. There is a possibility this role will be extended or convert to a permanent role. You will have work-from-home flexibility.  
 
The Position:
This role will ultimately require you to take ownership of the month-end activities. You will be responsible for:

• End of month accounting processes including journals, bank reconciliations and accruals 
• Disposal and acquisition of fixed assets
• Preparation of financial statements and end-of-month financial reporting
• Undertake internal reviews of current practices, processes, and results. This will involve working across multiple stakeholders in the department to understand current processes and identify any areas for improvement 
• Writing updated polices and financial management practices that can be applied across the department  
• Recommending and implementing process and systems improvements, where possible

Your Profile:
This role will be an ideal opportunity if:

• Ideally, you will have a strong background in reporting within large corporate organisations or government departments with exposure to accounting standards 
• Your strong Excel skills allow you to work with large volumes of data
• You enjoy being hands-on and have an incredibly strong attention to detail. 
• It is advantageous but not critical that you are a CPA/CA qualified
• You should have very strong Excel skills and ERP systems experience, preferably SAP
