The Opportunity
This well-established council is seeking an experienced Principal Financial Accountant to support a key project reviewing and improving its asset valuation framework. This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys translating complex accounting standards into clear frameworks and practical guidance, while collaborating with both finance and operational teams. It is part policy and process writing, and part asset accounting. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing existing asset valuation policies, procedures and guidance
• Assessing current approaches against relevant accounting standards
• Incorporating recommendations from prior external consultancy reviews
• Developing an updated valuation framework and procedural documentation
• Engaging with internal stakeholders across infrastructure and asset teams
• Translating complex accounting requirements into practical, usable guidance
• Assisting in valuation of assets  

About You
You are a technically strong finance professional who understands asset accounting in large infrastructure environments and can confidently interpret and apply accounting standards.

You will likely bring:

• Experience in asset accounting or asset valuation frameworks
• Exposure to large infrastructure asset bases (local government, utilities, mining, energy, or similar sectors)
• Strong understanding of accounting standards and valuation methodologies
• Experience developing or reviewing finance policies, procedures or frameworks
• The ability to work independently while engaging stakeholders across departments
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Experience with TechnologyOne or similar ERP systems is highly regarded.
