Brisbane - Hybrid (2 days per week in the office)
Build the design practice. Shape the platform. Influence an industry. Most design leadership roles ask you to inherit a mature design function.
This isn't one of them.
Our client is looking for a Senior UX Design Lead to establish and lead UX at a pivotal moment. You'll define the design system, shape how Design partners with Product and Engineering, build a small, high-performing UX team, and play a key role in delivering a next-generation software platform used by some of the world's largest mining operations.
If you're looking for a role where design influences not only products, but the direction of an organisation, this is a rare opportunity.
About the opportunity
Our client develops enterprise software that helps mining operations improve safety, productivity and decision-making across sites around the world. Backed by a global technology organisation, they're investing heavily in the next generation of their platform - and UX is central to that vision.
Reporting directly to the CTO, you'll work closely with Product and Engineering to define how design is practised across the business. This is a genuine player-coach role, balancing hands-on product design with leadership, mentoring and growing the UX capability.
You'll be working on predominantly greenfield products rather than redesigning legacy systems, solving complex problems involving real-time data, AI-assisted workflows and safety-critical environments. Good design here has a tangible impact on how people work every day.
What you'll do
- Lead UX across the product portfolio and the next-generation platform.
- Build and evolve the organisation's design system and component library.
- Define UX standards and establish effective ways of working with Product and Engineering.
- Shape the approach to AI within both the product experience and the design process.
- Conduct user research and turn insights into better product decisions.
- Create high-quality interaction, visual and experience design.
- Recruit, mentor and grow a small UX team.
- Champion accessibility, usability and design excellence across the organisation.
About you, You'll bring: - 8+ years' experience in UX or Product Design, ideally within enterprise or complex B2B software.
- A portfolio demonstrating exceptional interaction design, visual design and systems thinking.
- Experience building or leading the evolution of a design system.
- Experience leading and developing designers while remaining hands-on in delivery.
- Strong capability across research, information architecture, interaction design, prototyping and visual design.
- Experience designing desktop, tablet and mobile applications.
- Experience with AI-enabled products, AI-assisted design tools, or both.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Experience within mining or industrial software isn't essential. Curiosity, strategic thinking and a passion for solving complex problems are far more important.
The current team uses Figma, but we're interested in the experience and leadership you bring - not prescribing your design process.
Why join? This is an opportunity to create something lasting.
You'll have the autonomy to build a UX function from the ground up, establish the design system, influence product strategy and help shape a growing design team - all while working on software that supports critical operations around the world.
You'll also enjoy: - A genuine leadership role reporting directly to the CTO.
- Greenfield product development with significant organisational influence.
- Hybrid working (2 days per week in the Brisbane office).
- Interstate relocation support within Australia.
- The backing and stability of a global technology organisation.
Eligibility Applicants must have unrestricted working rights in Australia.
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Ready to make your mark? If you're looking for a leadership role where you'll still be close to the craft, have the freedom to build a design practice, and solve meaningful product challenges at scale, we'd love to hear from you.
