We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing construction business specialising in roofing, cladding, and rainwater systems across commercial and residential projects.
This is a hands-on, full-time Health & Safety Manager role where you will be out on site, working closely with crews and supervisors to ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
You will also work closely with the Directors to review, select, and implement a new health and safety system and software platform, helping shape how safety is managed across the business going forward.
This is not a desk-based role. We are looking for someone who is confident on site, understands working at heights risk, and can influence teams in real time.
About the role:
You will take ownership of health and safety across multiple active sites, ensuring systems are in place and, more importantly, are being followed on the ground.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead health and safety across multiple sites, ensuring compliance and safe work practices are consistently applied
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and hazard identification, with a strong focus on working at heights
- Manage incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions to reduce risk
- Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, and support supervisors to lift safety capability on site
- Work with Directors to review, select, and implement a new H&S system and drive continuous improvement
What we are looking for: This role will suit someone with strong construction experience who is confident operating in a fast-paced, site-based environment. You may have been consulting in the past and are wanting to go back into employment to make a real difference within one organisation.
You will bring:
- 5+ years health and safety management experience in construction, roofing, cladding, or similar
- Strong working knowledge of working at heights and site risk management
- Proven experience conducting site audits and managing compliance
- Experience with SSSPs, JSAs, and incident investigations
- The ability to build trust with crews and influence behaviour on site
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to safety
Qualifications: - Health and safety qualification (NZ Certificate/Diploma or equivalent)
- Site Safe passport
- Working at Heights certification
- Full NZ driver's licence
What’s on offer: - Supportive and down-to-earth team environment
- Opportunity to take ownership of the H&S function and make a real impact
- Involvement in selecting and implementing new systems and processes
- A relocation allowance is available for the right person
