We are seeking a skilled and independent Surveyor / Party Chief to join our team on a high-profile road and bridge construction project in Port St. Lucie, FL. This role is a “one-man show,” requiring the ability to run survey calculations, perform precise field layout, and verify subcontractor work without direct assistance.
 
The position offers exposure to both bridge and roadway projects and provides an opportunity for the right candidate to grow into a Field Engineer / Project Engineer role.

The Survey Chief must ensure accuracy, FDOT compliance, and independence, providing reliable survey results without over-reliance on subcontractors. Success will be measured by high-quality deliverables, smooth project execution, and the ability to take full ownership of survey responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform calculations from construction drawings and translate them into precise field layouts.
• Conduct survey work for bridge structures and associated roadway components.
• Verify subcontractor layout work (guardrail, striping, utilities, and other roadway elements).
• Split responsibilities roughly 50/50 between field and office work, with a 50-hour average workweek (may vary based on project needs).
• Utilize Trimble systems (experience preferred) but remain open to other survey software and control systems.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager (PM) to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely completion of survey tasks.
• Potential to take on field engineering/project engineering duties if interested in career growth.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Surveyor, Party Chief, or Survey Manager in heavy civil construction (bridge and roadway).
• Strong ability to read and interpret plans, perform survey calculations, and complete accurate layouts independently.
• Proficiency with Trimble or similar survey systems.
• Well-rounded knowledge of bridge and roadway layout practices.
• Must be capable of performing all aspects of the role without training.
• Flexibility to grow into additional responsibilities or project leadership if desired.
