We are recruiting on behalf of our client Gateway Family Services (GFS) for a new CEO to lead the organisation’s ongoing growth, sustainability and community impact into the future.
About the Opportunity… Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this role is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction and operational management of the organisation. This role oversees all programs, compliance, financial management, workforce leadership, community engagement, fundraising and organisational development.
As the organisation's primary spokesperson, you will represent Gateway Family Services with government, community partners, funders, media and other key stakeholders.
You’ll work closely with the Senior Executive Team to ensure services remain high-quality, client-centred and aligned with the organisation’s strengths-based and trauma-informed practice framework. The role also plays a key part in stakeholder engagement, advocacy, partnership development and securing future funding opportunities to support the organisation’s continued growth and sustainability.
This is a hands-on and highly varied executive leadership role that combines strategy, people leadership, governance, operational oversight and community impact.

- Part Time
- 22.5 hours per week: 3 days a week (Candidates with the flexibility and interest to increase to 4–5 days per week in the future will be highly regarded)
- SCHADS Award Level 8 (dependant on experience)
- Based across Gateway Family Services' Blaxland, Penrith and Katoomba locations, with regular travel between sites as part of the role

GFS delivers a range of family support and community programs grounded in strengths-based practice and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. The organisation works collaboratively with local services, government agencies and community partners to strengthen outcomes for vulnerable children and families.

What you’ll need to succeed… This role will suit an experienced and values-driven community sector leader with strong operational, financial and strategic leadership capability, ideally within the not-for-profit or human services sector. The successful candidate will bring exceptional relationship-building, communication and people management skills, along with a genuine commitment to strengths-based practice, community engagement and supporting children and families to thrive.
Selection Criteria… - Bachelor’s degree (minimum) and post graduate expertise in areas of Business, Social Work, Community Services or related fields
- 5 or more years’ senior non-profit management experience, preferably at CEO level
- Experience in working closely with a not-for-profit Board and proven success providing senior management across all aspects of organisational leadership
- Understanding of, and capacity to support and work within the ethos of the Uniting Church in delivery of GFS services
- Understanding of and ability to maintain GFS’s strength-based model and Solution Focused Brief Therapy framework for organisation management and service delivery
- Demonstrated expertise in effective, hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
- Organisational business and strategic plans, tenders and other funding applications, operational policies and procedures
- Substantive expertise and knowledge of working effectively with funding bodies and the government sector
- Ability to convey the Vision of GFS’s strategic future and business plans to employees, Board of Directors, Volunteers, Donors, government partners and other stakeholders
- Outstanding communication and negotiation skills with a demonstrated track record of strong representation and networking to achieve policy goals and strategic objectives
- Ability to prioritise competing demands, delegate and complete the tasks within agreed timeframes, along with strong organisational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
- Commitment to cross cultural respect and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural and social justice embedded and outlined in Reconciliation Action Plan (currently under review), GFS Strategic Plan and organisational work plans
