Our client SAGE Community Services is seeking a compassionate, culturally aware and experienced Counsellor to join their committed and collaborative team.
  
About the Opportunity…
This role supports women, children and families impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence. You’ll deliver trauma-informed counselling and recovery support, helping clients build safety and resilience.
  
As part of a small, skilled team, you’ll provide individual counselling (including outreach), facilitate groups, complete risk assessments and safety plans, and connect clients with the right services and supports.

• There is 1 vacancy being advertised
• Part Time
• 18 hours per week (days negotiable)
• SCHADS Award Level 5 (dependant on experience)
• Based in Pendle Hill, however Outreach may be required.

SAGE is a community-based family support service for families in the Parramatta and Cumberland local government areas. The Department of Community Services has funded the organisation since 1978.
  
SAGE provides an efficient, preventative service to families who seek support to improve their well-being. They address issues such as child development and behaviour, parenting strategies, strengthening parent / child relationships, social isolation and family violence. The centre provides a variety of services for families, including information, referral, community development, counselling, support services, home visits and group work.

What you’ll need to succeed…
This role will suit a confident and experienced practitioner who can work independently and collaboratively, manage competing demands, and respond with empathy and professionalism.
  
Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under s.31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  
Selection Criteria…

• Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. Psychology, Counselling or equivalent)
• Minimum 2 years counselling experience with women, children and families
• Knowledge and understanding of domestic, family and sexual violence and complex needs of victim/survivors
• Proven ability to support adults and children in crisis or at significant risk of harm and understanding of trauma-informed practice
• Undertake comprehensive risk assessment and create safety plans as needed.
• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to be flexible and manage competing demands
• Ability to be creative and problem solve in challenging situations
• Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds e.g., Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities, LGBQTIA+ communities, and people living with a disability
• Ability to work both independently and within a small team
• High level of computer literacy (including office 365, online information client management systems)
• Excellent organisational, administrative and time management skills
• Current driver’s licence and comprehensively insured vehicle
• Current WWCC and Police Check
