A progressive local supermarket group who operates a number of well-known Supermarkets across Ireland. We are delighted to assist our client in their search for an experienced candidate for Butcher position. Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Butcher to join their team in a busy Butcher Department. The store is located in a well-known store in Mayo just 20 minutes' drive from Westport and a 35 mins drive Ballina. A suitable candidate will have knowledge of types of meat and meat cuts, teamwork and have a customer focused approach to work. This job also requires following the Head Butcher to keep up with department cleanliness standards, inventory control and merchandising. • Cut, trim, prepare, and portion a variety of meats, including beef, pork, chicken, and seafood, according to customer requirements and company standards.
• Inspect meat products to ensure they are fresh, high-quality, properly stored, and sourced from approved and reliable suppliers.
• Follow all food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace health and safety regulations at all times.
• Assist customers with selecting meat products and provide helpful advice on cooking methods, preparation, storage, and portion sizes.
• Weigh, pack, label, price, and accurately display meat products in accordance with company procedures.
• Maintain attractive and well-organised meat displays and ensure products are rotated according to freshness and expiry dates.
• Operate and maintain butcher equipment, including knives, slicers, scales, and other relevant machinery, safely and efficiently.
• Monitor stock levels and report low stock, damaged products, or quality concerns to the supervisor or manager.
• Minimise product waste by using appropriate cutting, trimming, storage, and portioning techniques.
• Handle customer enquiries and resolve basic concerns in a friendly, professional, and helpful manner.
• Work closely with other team members to ensure efficient daily operations and excellent customer service.  

• 1-2 years of previous experience as a butcher is preferred. Candidates with relevant experience in a meat-processing facility, meat warehouse, supermarket, or similar environment may also be considered.
• Good knowledge of different meat types, cuts, preparation methods, and portioning techniques.
• Experience using butcher tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and safe food-handling practices.
• Good customer service and communication skills, with a friendly and professional approach.
• Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods and regularly lift and handle heavy items.
• Reliable, punctual, responsible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, early mornings, or evenings when required.
