A leading State Government organisation is seeking experienced Project Engineer to support a high-profile emergency response following the failure at Mitchell’s Causeway and the closure of the Great Western Highway.

This is a critical infrastructure program with significant public and stakeholder visibility, focused on maintaining and strengthening key detour routes.

About the Role You will play a key role in delivering a $50 million detour upgrade program, including:

• Asphalting works
• Shoulder widening
• Corridor improvements

Projects are located along:

• Darling Causeway
• Chifley Road
• Main Street, Lithgow

You will manage both internal delivery crews and contractors, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality delivery in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Contract Details: 

• Duration: 6 months (with strong potential for 6-month extension)
• Start Date: ASAP
• Rate: $800-$1,000 + super (Night rates will apply)

Key Responsibilities: 

• Manage end-to-end delivery of road infrastructure projects
• Scope, estimate, and plan works in collaboration with stakeholders
• Lead and coordinate internal crews and subcontractors (including asphalt works)
• Oversee site-based delivery, ensuring compliance with relevant standards
• Monitor budgets, timelines, and project risks
• Provide strong on-site leadership and problem-solving in dynamic conditions
• Liaise effectively with contractors, supervisors, and senior project engineers

About You We are looking for candidates who:

• Have proven experience delivering road or civil infrastructure projects
• Thrive in high-pressure, time-critical environments
• Demonstrate strong communication, leadership, and initiative
• Have experience working with asphalt specifications and delivery
• Ideally have prior experience within State Government or similar environments
• Are familiar with the local area (highly regarded)

Essential Requirements

• Civil Engineering Degree (4-year qualification)
• White Card
• Workers on Foot
• PWZTMP (Traffic Management) 
• PPE (required for site work)
• Ability to provide 2 recent reference checks

Work Conditions

• Site-based role (no work from home)
• Based out of Lithgow depot and surrounding project sites
• Candidates must be within reasonable travel distance or willing to relocate
• Night shift work required (~40%) – with applicable penalties
• Combination of day and night works depending on delivery needs
