About the Company
Condor Energy Services is a specialist services provider to the Oil & Gas sector, operating across Australia and international markets.
We work in a project-driven environment where operational performance, cost control, project visibility and commercial discipline matter. Finance plays an important role in building the systems, reporting and controls that allow the business to understand performance and make better decisions.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Accountant to join our Finance team in Brisbane.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, this role will take ownership of project accounting, project performance reporting and financial support across our projects and service lines.
The Finance team has already built a substantial reporting and data architecture across project performance, purchasing, operational reporting and management information using Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, Excel and Power BI.
The opportunity is to work within that foundation, improve it, and help embed it more deeply across the business.
You will work closely with Project Managers, operational leaders and the broader Finance team to provide clear visibility of project performance, strengthen cost control, improve financial discipline and support better commercial decision-making.
We are looking for someone who enjoys both the accounting and the underlying systems: someone who wants to understand how information flows through the business, why the numbers look the way they do, and how reporting can be made more useful.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
- Own the preparation and review of monthly project financial reporting across projects and Project Service Lines.
- Analyse actuals, budgets, forecasts, margins, cost movements and project trends to identify risks, opportunities and areas requiring attention.
- Work closely with Project Managers and operational stakeholders to improve visibility of project performance and financial outcomes.
- Provide clear financial analysis and practical commercial insight to support decision-making.
- Represent Finance in project and operational meetings.
- Review project inputs, coding, accruals, cost allocations and other information that affects the accuracy of project results.
- Support the preparation and review of project budgets, forecasts and financial projections.
- Use and further develop existing Power BI (not as the developer unless you possess the skillset), Business Central and Excel reporting models.
- Support managers in taking greater ownership of their own financial and operational information.
- Improve data quality, reporting consistency and the underlying logic used across project reporting.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual work, improve controls and automate recurring finance processes.
- Support the development of more junior project accounting capability as the team grows.
- Proactively identify and escalate project financial and commercial risks.
Who You’ll Work With You will report to the Senior Finance Manager, a
Big 4-trained finance leader with experience across mid-market businesses and a strong focus on financial analysis, systems, data and reporting architecture.
The Finance team is being developed around a simple principle:
Financial information should be structured, reliable, accessible and useful to the people running the business.
You are likely to enjoy this role if you are an
analytical and systems-minded accountant who is curious about:
- how financial information is generated;
- how data flows through operational and finance systems;
- why reporting processes break down;
- how reporting can be made more useful;
- how finance can help operational teams understand their own performance;
- how technology can remove low-value manual work.
You do not need to be a Power BI developer.
What matters more is that you are comfortable with data, interested in systems and process improvement, and willing to develop those capabilities while bringing strong project accounting fundamentals.
A major part of this role is working directly with the people running the projects and service lines.
You will partner with Project Managers, operational leaders and other stakeholders to improve the way project and operational information is understood and used across the business.
The expectation is not that Finance simply prepares reports and sends them out. We want operational teams to increasingly take ownership of their own data, understand the financial consequences of their decisions, and use the reporting available to identify issues earlier.
About You You are an analytical and commercially minded finance professional who combines strong accounting fundamentals with curiosity about the business.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in project accounting, management accounting or a similar commercial finance role.
- Strong experience analysing project performance, budgets, forecasts, margins and actual results.
- Experience partnering with operational teams and explaining
