Position Summary
The Control System Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of Substation Automation Systems (SAS) within transmission and distribution substations. The role focuses on integrating Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), SCADA systems, protection relays, communication networks, and IEC 61850-based automation solutions to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical infrastructure. The successful candidate will support greenfield and brownfield substation projects from concept design through commissioning and ongoing operational support.
Key Responsibilities Engineering & Design
Design and develop Substation Automation Systems for HV and EHV substations.
Prepare engineering documentation
Develop IEC 61850 system architectures and configuration files.
Configure and integrate protection relays, RTUs, HMIs, gateways, and SCADA systems.
Support cyber-secure network design for substation automation infrastructure.
Configure SCADA systems and communication protocols
Develop and manage substation communication networks using industrial Ethernet technologies
Develop Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures
Support field commissioning activities for new installations and upgrades.
Troubleshoot communication, protection, and control system issues.
Collaborate with protection, primary, secondary, and telecommunications engineers
Qualifications Essential
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
3+ years of experience in substation automation, SCADA, or protection and control engineering.
Strong understanding of transmission and distribution substation operations.
Experience working with utility, EPC, or power system projects.
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE/RPEQ/CPEng or equivalent).
Vendor certifications from Siemens, ABB, Hitachi Energy, Schneider Electric, GE Vernova, SEL, RTAC or similar.
Cybersecurity certifications relevant to Industrial Control Systems
Work Environment
Combination of office, remote, and field-based work.
Travel to substations, construction sites, and client facilities as required.
Participation in commissioning activities that may involve extended hours or rostered site work.
