Role Overview
 
OPUS Technical Resources is seeking a highly capable Control Systems Engineer to support industrial, utility‑scale renewable, and major infrastructure projects across Australia. This role is suited to an engineer with strong technical depth in automation, SCADA, PLC/RTU programming, and control system integration across complex operational environments.
 
You will work with developers, EPC contractors, OEMs, network operators, and asset owners to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant control system solutions from concept through commissioning and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, configure, and optimise PLC, SCADA, HMI, RTU, and DCS systems for industrial and renewable energy assets.
• Lead control system design, architecture development, and functional specification documentation.
• Perform logic development, testing, FAT/SAT, and commissioning activities.
• Integrate control systems with plant equipment
• Support renewable project controls including solar, hybrid systems, and grid‑compliant control strategies.
• Conduct troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and performance optimisation for operational assets.
• Ensure compliance with Australian standards, network requirements, cybersecurity frameworks, and project specifications.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, OEMs, and site personnel to ensure seamless project delivery.
• Provide technical input into tenders, feasibility studies, and design reviews.

Skills & Experience

• Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Control Systems, or Automation Engineering.
• Proven experience in industrial automation or renewable energy control systems.
• Proficiency with major platforms such as Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, Schneider, Rockwell.
• Strong understanding of communication protocols 
• Experience with SCADA platforms (e.g., Citect, Ignition, Wonderware, GE iFIX, AVEVA).
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, SLDs, control philosophies, and functional specifications.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and documentation skills.
• Experience delivering projects through design, testing, commissioning, and operational support phases.

Desirable Experience

• Exposure to BESS EMS/PCS, wind turbine control, solar plant SCADA, or hybrid microgrid systems.
• Familiarity with AS/NZS 3000, AS 61439, AS 4777, AEMO/Network connection requirements, and cybersecurity standards.
• Experience in heavy industry, mining, water, manufacturing, or power generation environments.
• Ability to work across multiple projects and stakeholder groups.
