Compliance Manager – Food Distribution & Logistics
Location: Enfield, London (On-site)
Salary: £50,000 + Benefits
Hours: On-site, Monday to Friday

The Opportunity

A growing food distribution and logistics business is seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to lead all aspects of food safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance and health & safety across its warehouse and operational functions.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring the organisation maintains the highest standards of food compliance, regulatory adherence, risk management and operational safety.

The successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert for food safety and compliance, driving continuous improvement and embedding a strong compliance culture throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities
Food Safety & Compliance

• Lead all food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance activities across warehouse and operational functions.
• Maintain and develop HACCP systems, food safety procedures and compliance documentation.
• Ensure compliance with relevant food legislation, industry standards and customer requirements.
• Manage product recall processes, traceability systems and corrective action plans.
• Act as the primary contact for food safety and compliance matters with customers, auditors and regulatory bodies.

Auditing & Standards

• Maintain BRCGS accreditation and lead preparation for both announced and unannounced audits.
• Conduct regular internal audits covering food safety, hygiene, warehouse operations and compliance controls.
• Implement corrective and preventative actions arising from audits and inspections.
• Monitor compliance performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Health & Safety

• Lead health and safety compliance across the site.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop safe systems of work.
• Investigate incidents, near misses and compliance breaches, implementing appropriate corrective actions.
• Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation.

Training & Development

• Develop and deliver food safety, hygiene, HACCP and health & safety training programmes.
• Ensure employees remain up to date with compliance procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Support managers in maintaining high standards of operational compliance.

Reporting & Governance

• Produce compliance reports, KPI dashboards and management information for senior leadership.
• Monitor regulatory developments and communicate changes affecting the business.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures and standard operating processes.

Candidate Requirements
Essential Experience

• Proven experience in a Food Compliance, Technical, Quality Assurance, or Compliance Management role.
• Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Experience managing HACCP systems within a food manufacturing, FMCG, warehousing, distribution or logistics environment.
• Experience preparing for and managing external audits, including BRCGS standards.
• Experience working with regulatory and enforcement bodies such as Environmental Health Officers (EHO) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
• Strong understanding of health & safety legislation and risk management.

Essential Qualifications

• HACCP Level 4
• Food Safety/Hygiene Level 4
• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification

Desirable

• Degree qualification in Food Science, Quality Management, Logistics, Supply Chain or related discipline.
• Experience within FMCG warehousing, food storage, distribution or logistics operations.
• Project management experience.
