We recruit across a wide range of industries, including administration, trades, aviation, health, community services, and facilities support. About the opportunity
We're recruiting Custody Officers for Broome and Kununurra on behalf of our client, an established government services contractor who has delivered this work for more than seven years. It's a stable, long-term operation supporting the WA justice system, and a real career path — not a stopgap.
Who we're looking for
We're recruiting locally. You're either already based in Broome or Kununurra, or you've made the decision to move and you're getting yourself there. We're not recruiting people from elsewhere who need to be relocated — this role is for people who already love the Kimberley, or are ready to call it home.
More than anything, we're looking for people with the right attitude and the right capability. If you're calm under pressure, respectful with people, reliable, and willing to learn — you're the kind of person we want to hear from. Formal experience helps, but attitude and capability matter more. Full training is provided.
The package
- $29.50/hr once qualified ($27.35/hr during training)
- $10,189 per year regional allowance, paid fortnightly
- Overtime likely — the operation runs 24/7, so additional hours are generally available
- Six weeks of fully paid training in Perth, with flights and accommodation covered
- Cert 3 in Correctional Services / Custodial Management, fully funded
- High Security Permit from the WA Department of Justice on completion
The role Custody Officers supervise detainees in court holding cells, escort them to medical appointments, transport them between courts and facilities, and provide security at courts and hospitals. It's not always easy work — you'll need to stay calm, treat people with respect, and follow procedure when things get hard.
What we need from you - Based in Broome or Kununurra (or moving there at your own arrangement)
- Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Willing to commit to a minimum of 12 months
- Willing to spend six weeks training in Perth
- Able to pass Fit2Work, National Police Check, Department of Justice Integrity Assessment, and a pre-employment medical including drug & alcohol screening
- A calm head, respect for people, and the ability to work as part of a team
Backgrounds we'd love to see Experience in youth work, community programs, security, healthcare, customer-facing roles, mentoring or anywhere you've earned trust in tough situations is genuinely valuable here. So is life experience. If you've supported people in difficult moments and stayed steady doing it, that counts.
A note on the work Many of the people in custody you'll work with are Aboriginal. We're looking for people who bring genuine respect, an open mind, and the willingness to do this work with care.
