Data & Integration Architect | 6 months Contract initally | Melbourne
A major Australian organisation is undertaking a large-scale enterprise transformation programme. A key workstream within this programme is focused on building a modern, unified data and integration layer.
The Opportunity
The organisation's data is currently distributed across multiple legacy systems with no consolidated view. This role will design and deliver the architecture that brings that data together, structures it, and makes it accessible to the business.
Scope of the Role
This is a data and integration architecture role that requires technical depth. You will be responsible for defining the architecture across data pipelines, integration patterns, governance frameworks, data flows, data stores, analytics, and AI enablement. You will be expected to create data models, understand data optimisation and indexing strategies, and work closely with developers on implementation.
Your work will span:
- Data pipeline architecture across AWS services (Redshift, Bedrock)
- Real-time data streaming with Kafka
- Pipeline orchestration with Airflow
- Data transformation using dbt
- Reporting and semantic modelling with Tableau
- Medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold)
- Data lake and data warehouse patterns
- Event-driven and publish/subscribe architecture
- PII obfuscation, access control, and data governance
- ETL/ELT patterns and data products
Requirements - Demonstrated experience in data architecture, integration architecture, or senior data engineering
- Strong hands-on proficiency across the AWS data stack
- Practical experience with Kafka, Airflow, dbt, and Tableau
- Sound understanding of data products, data governance, and integration design patterns
- Experience managing PII, sensitive data, and access control within regulated environments
- Able to create data models, understand data optimisation and indexing strategies, and work closely with developers on technical implementation
Programme Context The programme is well supported, with high visibility across the organisation. You will be working alongside a strong architecture team covering security, infrastructure, and cloud. An architecture council is in place, and your work will be peer-reviewed and technically challenged. The programme is in its early stages, offering genuine scope to shape the data architecture from the ground up.
If this sounds like you, please apply within.
