Xavier Children's Support Network is part of the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane and has been operating in the disability services sector in Brisbane for over 60 years. Xavier has a long and proud history of providing supports for children and young people with complex health and disability needs.
Like many in our industry we are changing to pro-actively meet and respond to the needs of clients. We want people with the same passion to join our supportive multi-disciplinary team to provide services in the community.
We are now seeking to fill several positions and are recruiting positive and motivated Enrolled Nurses-Medication Endorsed (EEN) to work on a permanent part time basis in a variety of shifts including day, evening and overnight in the following areas:
- In-Home shifts
- Community based locations, and
- At Xavier Place (our short-term accommodation facility).
Our workers are required to have flexibility to perform work in other locations including our respite house ‘Xavier Place’ at Yeerongpilly.
Ideally, minimum hours would be 20 hours per week.
The role primarily focuses on care of children and young adults with complex disabilities and health conditions. Opportunities may also exist in future to expand skills and knowledge to work with older persons.
Xavier provides significant internal education and training on complex disabilities and health needs to help build skill development and competence with children requiring tracheostomy care, enteral feeding, high risk of seizure (as examples).
The EEN role is part of the clinical and direct support team working collaboratively with other health professionals and disability support workers. All direct support workers including EENs are required to provide all aspects of personal care as well as proactively providing opportunities for meaningful activities within and outside the client home or at Xavier Place.
In addition to direct support responsibilities, the EENs will work with direct and indirect supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and be responsible for:
- Contributing information in assisting the RN with development of nursing strategies/improvements within the practice setting and/or nursing and support services team, as necessary
- Assessment, planning, developing, implementing and monitoring Complex Health and Awareness Management Plans (CHAMP) under the direction of a RN
- Supervising and teaching/coaching support workers
- Identification and escalation of deterioration in clients
- Responding to situations in less stable and/or changed circumstances resulting in positive outcomes, with minimal direct supervision
- Efficiency and sound judgement in identifying situations requiring assistance from an RN
- Client assessments – wound assessment and wound care; pressure risk assessments etc
- Medication management
Ideally, we are looking for:
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in general nursing acquired as an EEN with complex medical needs clients. Typically this would entail a solid foundation of post graduate experience in medical nursing in community and/or hospital settings however applicants with other experience will be considered.
- Willingness to perform shift work including night duty
- Experience working in disability or health care setting with children and/or young people with complex needs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required for working with a variety of diverse stakeholders
- Problem solving skills to meet the unique needs of individuals and families in the community
- Collaborative/team approach and ability to work productively and effectively with limited direct supervision
- Prior experience supervising and coaching support workers/personal carers/nursing assistants will be advantageous
Other requirements include: - Hold a Diploma in Nursing (HLT54115) with AHPRA registration
- Meet suitability requirements for work including willingness to undertake a national police check and agree to sign a statutory declaration regarding any overseas criminal offences
- NDIS Worker Screening Check and certificate of completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module
- Appropriate work rights for Australia
- Current driver's licence
- Smart phone with internet access for work purposes
