Our client, a top 150 global manufacturer of Custom Equipment for the Food industry, is seeking a talented Automation Controls Engineer to join their team!
As an Automation Controls Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, engineering, and supporting electrical control systems for large-scale production equipment used in the food industry. You will collaborate with project management to own the controls aspect of each project from start to finish, working on wiring schematics and panel layout drawings in AutoCAD Electrical. Additionally, you will be an expert in Allen-Bradley PLC programming using RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, Studio 5000 View, and FactoryTalk ME software, ensuring the proper implementation of features and supporting field personnel for installations and technical troubleshooting.
This is a hybrid role offering flexibility to work 2 days from home, and 3 days in office either Philadelphia, PA or Bangor, PA.
The ideal candidate will be an expert in designing and developing automation controls for custom engineering equipment, with proficiency in PLCs and HMI systems (Allen-Bradley), as well as AutoCAD Electrical for wiring schematics and panel layout drawings.

Responsibilities of this position include:
- Design and develop software applications using RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, Studio 5000 View, and FactoryTalk ME software based on given requirements and specifications.
- Redline electrical designs in field, including wiring schematics and panel layout drawings, update in AutoCAD Electrical
- Research supplier products for assembly components, help establish and maintain electrical standards, and configure hardware per application specifications.
- Understand client requirements for control architecture and create specifications accordingly.
- Review and update legacy code as needed and troubleshoot issues with existing systems.
- Produce technical documentation, including Software Management Plan, Test Plan, User/Operating Manual with Troubleshooting Guide, and Spare Parts List.
- 20-30% travel to customer sites for requirements, installations, troubleshooting, and provide timely and detailed status updates.
- Perform field surveys, document existing conditions, recommend design solutions.
- Check the quality of assemblers' and technicians' work, respond to inquiries during assembly, and provide technical support for field personnel.
- Review specifications and standard practices, confirm specification and code compliance, equipment compatibility, and identify potential cost savings.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
- At least 2 years in automation, custom equipment, or OEM machine manufacturing industry.
- At least 5 years of experience in PLC controls
- Experience in wiring schematics and panel layout drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Proficiency with Allen-Bradley programmable PLCs & HMIs, including RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, Studio 5000 View, and FactoryTalk ME software.
- Familiarity with various Motion Controllers, Actuators, Sensors, and VFDs.
- Strong experience and skill in troubleshooting control system issues.
- Willingness to travel 20-30% with no more than 2 weeks at a time.
Salary: $100,000 - $115,000
Location: Philadelphia, PA OR Bangor PA
Hybrid: 3 days in office/2 days remote
