THE OPPORTUNITY. As the Manager of Pharmacy, you are a critical link in the mission to provide people-centred care. Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy department and provide essential leadership for their regional chemotherapy program. Operating within a state-of-the-art facility that has earned "Accreditation with Exemplary Standing," you will manage a highly skilled team of professionals dedicated to medication safety and patient outcomes. You will lead the integration of pharmacy services across their 186-bed facility, working closely with clinical leads at The Ottawa Hospital to deliver world-class oncology care close to home. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide operational and strategic leadership for the pharmacy department, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of pharmaceutical services throughout the hospital.
- Lead the regional chemotherapy program in collaboration with The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, ensuring compliance with provincial oncology standards.
- Implement and champion "Lean" principles to optimize drug distribution, medication reconciliation, and departmental efficiency.
- Foster a high-performance culture through mentoring, coaching, and the professional development of pharmacy staff.
- Manage operational risk and patient safety by overseeing the use of pharmacy information systems, smart pump technology, and complex distribution models.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership and medical staff to ensure pharmacy services are integrated into all aspects of patient care and strategic planning.
- Manage departmental resources, including budgeting and personnel, with a focus on staff well-being and recruitment.
PROFESSIONAL PROFILE (COMPETENCIES). Licensure: Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists is required (or evidence of eligibility for registration).
Education: Undergraduate Degree in Pharmacy or a related Health Sciences field.
Leadership Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive management experience in a healthcare environment, ideally with a focus on hospital operations.
Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing models, and clinical technology.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to apply Lean principles and change management strategies to complex clinical environments.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills, with a proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
