Role Overview
  
Our client are seeking a talented and driven Associate with 3-5 years of PQE to join the contentious construction team in London. The successful candidate will work on a wide range of complex, high-value, and often international disputes within the construction and engineering sectors. You will be advising clients on all stages of dispute resolution, including adjudication, arbitration, litigation, and mediation.

Key Responsibilities

• Dispute Resolution: Advising clients on contentious matters, including breach of contract, delay claims, variations, and professional negligence disputes.
• Case Management: Managing a caseload of complex construction disputes across various forums, including adjudication, arbitration (domestic and international), and litigation.
• Drafting: Preparing pleadings, witness statements, expert reports, and settlement agreements.
• Client Advisory: Providing strategic advice to clients on risk management and dispute avoidance, including pre-dispute negotiations and contract analysis.
• Sector Expertise: Handling disputes relating to infrastructure, energy, commercial developments, and public sector projects.
• Collaboration: Working closely with other practice groups, such as real estate, energy, and projects, to provide seamless client service.
• Business Development: Supporting business development initiatives, including client pitches, seminars, and thought leadership pieces.

• Experience:
  • 3-5 years of PQE gained at a leading law firm with a strong contentious construction practice.
  • Proven experience in handling construction disputes, including adjudication, arbitration (LCIA, ICC), and litigation (TCC).
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract (e.g., JCT, NEC, FIDIC) and bespoke construction contracts.
• Technical Skills:
  • Strong legal drafting and research skills.
  • Sound knowledge of construction law, including related statutory and regulatory frameworks.
  • An ability to interpret complex construction contracts and technical reports.
• Client-Focused:
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice.
• Personal Attributes:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • A team player with the ability to work collaboratively across practice areas and jurisdictions.
• Education & Qualification:
  • UK-qualified solicitor with a strong academic background.
  • Additional qualifications in arbitration (e.g., CIArb membership) are advantageous but not essential.
