This opportunity As the HSE Lead for our Vessel Services team in Australia you will provide operational support to the HSE Lead across the Australian vessel fleet, ensuring that health, safety, and environmental risks are proactively identified, effectively managed, and fully compliant with company, client, and regulatory requirements. You will play a critical role in fostering a high-performing safety culture by embedding strong HSE behaviours across all levels of the fleet and ensuring that HSE considerations are consistently integrated into operational planning and decision-making.
This is a full-time permanent position based in our Perth CBD office overlooking the beautiful Elizabeth Quay.
key responsibilities: - Provide operational HSEQ leadership across the Australian vessel fleet.
- Ensures operational HSEQ risks are effectively identified, managed and compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements is achieved.
- Drive a high-performing safety culture, embedding strong HSEQ leadership behaviours, and ensuring that HSEQ is deeply integrated into operational decision-making.
- In addition, this role holds the formal statutory positions of Designated Person Ashore (DPA) under the ISM Code, and Company Security Officer (CSO) under the ISPS Code, for all Cyan Renewables Australian-flagged vessels.
- The role serves as the primary safety interface between the company's shore-based management and the fleet and requires deep familiarity with the Australian offshore regulatory environment, including NOPSEMA, AMSA, and major offshore energy clients.
- Seagoing experience at officer level is a prerequisite.
Essential Qualifications - Former or current maritime qualification (e.g., Master <3000GT, Master Unlimited, Chief Engineer).
- Minimum 3 years' shore-based HSEQ experience within an offshore marine company operating in Australia.
- Proven experience as a DPA or in a role with direct DPA accountability, including ISM/ISPS compliance management.
Desirable Qualifications - Knowledge of international standards and codes, including ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC and ISPS
- Designated Person Ashore (DPA) qualification
- Company Security Officer (CSO) qualification
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety – or equivalent
What do we need from you? - Experience conducting or participating in internal/external audits (e.g., ISM, ISO, Flag State Inspections, Port State Control)
- Ability to lead investigations and ensure effective corrective and preventative action
- Skilled in root cause analysis (e.g., ICAM, TapRoot, or equivalent)
- Strong personal commitment to safety as a core value
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Proven ability to deliver measurable safety performance outcomes
- Ability to travel offshore
